A nice photo to make you think about checking when abseiling off tat. 95% of it looks fine but their are only 3 strands remaining of the core and no sheath. ALWAYS CHECK ALL OF THE TAT!

Clever webmaster should use imgur But yes always back up the tat and send a heavy guy down first. I recommend Chris, he is 80kg of pure tat-testing freshery goodness. Plus he is so trusting he will do anything if you say it with a smile

Scary indeed. Worrying that people where abseiling on it without checking - strikes me as lazy.
Back up tat regardless of its condition. Takes two seconds, and could prevent injury.

6mm tat 1000kg breaking strength
5 strand core 200kg breaking strength 3 strands have 600kg breaking strength
5mm has breaking strength ~ 500Kg
3 strands of 6mm are stronger than 5mm!
It'll hold!
but yeah, don't ab off it!

That's not even 6mm, looks like 10mm so probably even stronger than 600kg.
Of course, that's for a new rope. An old one is going to have degraded thanks to UV/freeze-thaw/dust etc. So aye, replace it.
